One Crust Shortening Crust

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup vegetable shortening, cut in chunks, chilled
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp cold water
  1. Combine in a food processor the flour, shortening and salt.  Mix until coarse crumb texture.
  2. Add the water and pulse 20 to 30 seconds until it starts to form a ball.
  3. Shape into a ball, wrap in plastic and chill 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out to fit a pie plate.  If the crust is to be baked prior to filling, bake at 450 F for 12 to 15 minutes.
  5. Double the recipe if you require 2 crusts.
